The Benefits of Plants

Plants are my favorites!

I use to own 14 at a time, but that is before winter came and killed them all. So now I am just down to six.

I LOVE EACH AND EVERYONE OF MY PLANTS. I am such a plant mom.

I started loving plants once I went to college my freshman year.

Every Saturday there was a green market in West Palm that my friends and I would go to every weekend. There was a lady with a booth who sold different types of plants and flowers. My first plant was a Jade and a Cactus. They lived four long years until their passing in 2020 (2020 was just a bad year).

My plant garden just continues to grow into one big happy family.

This past year, I started looking into some good indoor plants that would help purify the air. As of right now, I have some amazing plants including a string of pears, jade, dieffenbachia (dumb cane), Sansevieria Trifasciata (snake plant) and on Monday I bought a Peperomia Jayde.

It can be hard to take care of a lot of plants, so as of right now, six is a perfect number for me. I would recommend if buying plants, focus on the amount that you know you can take care of rather than just buying them for fun. Plants take a lot of care and handling and having your focus on what you can handle is the best solution for you and the plant.

Also when buying a plant, make sure to ask the person you are buying it from for the care and maintenance of that specific plant. All plants are catered differently, so make sure you ask so you aren't overwatering/rotting the roots or putting it too close to the sun when it is supposed to be in indirect sunlight.

There are so many different benefits to having indoor plants.

1. They can help purify your air: There was a study that NASA did in 1960 to show that indoor plants can help improve the quality of inside air by making it clean from all the toxins in the air.

2. Helps with allergies: Studies have shown that rooms with plants have less dust and mold inside of them. (https://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/ss/slideshow-health-benefits-houseplants). This can definitely help with those with serious allergies to certain dust mites. Always do your research on which plants are best for people with allergies. A few that I know of are peace lilies, spider plants, and dieffenbachia.

3. Spider plants are so cool through how they grow, but a great benefit they have is with helping with the moisture levels in a house. If there is too must moisture in a room, these bad boys can help suck the rest in.

4. Stress and focus: My plants keep me stress free (unless they are dying) and give me a sharp focus. As a minimalist, it helps to have plants rather than pictures around so I don't get so distracted.

I love my plants so very much and each one comes with different benefits than others.

When looking at a plant, let it speak to you. Pick the one that stands the most out and know that you know how to properly care for it. Ask or do some research on the benefits and care of the plants.

If you are a busy person, look for a low maintenance plant.

Also if you own any pets like dogs or cats, look out for those plants that can be harmful to them. My Dieffenbachia is poisonous to pets, so make sure you look for a non-poisonous one.

Don't buy a plant that will be too hard to care for. Trust me, it will stress you out, so get the amount of plants you can care for even if it's just one. Care and love on it.
