Traveling as a Minimalist

Hey everyone it's me Azalea.

I know I have been slacking on my blog post, but the reason for that is because I have been traveling a lot. I went on two trips back to back, so May was a long month for me.

I love traveling and it is something I love to do, but I know that I need to learn how to juggle my blog post around my travel times which can be hard for me.

As the only minimalist in my family and friend group, it can be hard to travel with people that love to shop and buy things while being on vacation, but I am super proud of myself for how little money I spent.

Both trips that I went on to Disney with my family and West Palm/Ft Lauderdale/Miami with my girlfriends were the first trips I had gone on that I did not buy any extra things including souvenirs or clothes. I was so proud of myself for only buying the food I needed to eat on the trips rather than other trinkets that I would only use during that time and no other time.

When going on a big trip with your family or friends, always remember the questions "What can I use this for long-term" and "Is this going to benefit my life?" I know sometimes we want what we want and we will buy things that we don't need, but we can learn from those mistakes.

On my West Palm trip with my friends, I did make a buying mistake that will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

My friends and I decided to get dessert and drinks at The Breakers hotel restaurant HMF. We each ordered a drink and we split two desserts. If you go to any other restaurant, that would be roughly around $30-$40 altogether. Well since this is the Breakers, altogether we spend $118 just for drinks and desserts! $118! I couldn't believe the price of the food added with a 20% tip. Although the dessert and drinks were very good, it wasn't $118 good. For me, that was the first and last time I would go there and spend $40 on myself there just for one drink and a little dessert.

As always, we make spending mistakes on trips and we live and learn from previous trips and this was just a learning experience for me to manage my money better on trips. If you go on a trip with friends, always choose places to eat everyone can afford and that are reasonably priced so that your money can stretch. You do not always have to eat out somewhere that is super expensive. There are many great places that locals know about even if you have dietary preferences.

The one thing that I want to end this blog on is that if you are going on a trip soon, remember to just have fun! Experiences are always a big part of trips. Being at Disney with my whole family might have been exhausting, but such a fun time! Going on a speedboat ride through the Bayshore area of Miami with one of my best friends was the best part of the trip!

As a minimalist, things don't really matter to me, but the times and experiences shared with others through traveling are the best part of a trip for me.
